Sex And The City 2!!!!!!!!

Sex & The City 2 was released in theatres this past Thursday 5/27 and you know your girl was in the very first show of the day... or should I say night... My friends and I caught the 12:01 am show on Wednesday night!
I know you ain't just call me a fiend! lol
Hey, I wasn't about to let some ungrateful wenches see my girls before me and try to spoil it for me. Not happening! :p

So overall I thought the movie was really good!
Of course it didn't top the first S&TC movie but hey, what could possibly top Carry marrying Mr. Big --other than a divorce :-(

Exactly!

Of course we had our drinks in our cups just the way Carrie and the ladies would want us to! When did they ever get together without a couple Martini's ;)

(here's one of the flicks that I took during the movie -- much to the annoyance of the viewers around me lol but who cares???????)

One of the scenes that really stood out to me was the one where Miranda and Charlotte really got to bond! This was a new dynamic to me. In the series it seemed like even though all the ladies were good friends each had a seperate & special bond with Carrie. At times we would see Carrie interacting with Charlotte or Carrie interacting with Miranda but I honestly can't count on half of one hand how many time I remember seeing Charlotte & Miranda really having their own time together.

It was different yet realistic. I guess that speaks to the way that friendships change over time. We all walk different paths in life and believe it or not Charlotte & Miranda (both being married with children) have more in common now with each other than any of the other ladies... who woulda thunk it!
My friends DD & Tonika also joined in on the festivities!

another one of my bootleg movie pics lol

A second debate that came about between the girls and I after we saw the movie was this whole notion that Big came up with of he and Carrie spending 2 days away from each other every week to keep the excitement in their relationship. Now I can completely understand the concept of distance making the heart grow fonder but if you have to spend that much time away from your partner then maybe you guys need to reconsider the relationship. :/ ....what do you guys think about that?

Well...... if you've seen the movie, please feel free to leave a comment and share your thoughts on this sequal.......................................................................................................

Weekend Outings: Fab Times with Fab Friends!

It's been 5 years since I graduated from Howard University and sadly enough it's also been 5 years since the last time I've seen my college roommate Ngozi.

I clicked with this chick as soon as I met her and I've considered her a close friend ever since!

Just as tumultuous as one would expect college years to be, Ngozi and I were there for each other thru many up's and down's. She was one of the more focused girls I met at HU, working part time as a waitress and always finding time to hit the library to study. There were times I found myself convincing her of why going to a certain party would be a bigger benefit to her life goals than burying her head in a pile of books all night long. :)

I also remember that when I experienced the loss of a boyfriend to gun violence I fell into a very dark mental space and thanks to friends like Ngozi being there for me 24/7 I was able to make it back to emotional wellness way faster than I otherwise would have.

Hanging out with Ngozi (and another college friend Jessica) this weekend was just like old times! It was like we never parted ways....
(Fast shout out to Jessica who accomplished her dream of becoming a dentist. She's currently in NJ but will soon be practicing in the DC area so if you live out there and you're looking for a good DDS... she's your gal! Get it Girl!)

It's great to know that no matter how long we may go without seeing each other, whenever we do get to hang out we can just pick up from where we left off. It's common that people go off in their seperate ways and live their adult lives experiencing things that change them as individuals or changes the dynamics in their friendships --(not always a bad thing!!)--.... I'm just glad to know that we all still see eye to eye!

So long story short I caught up with an old friend and had a BLAST!!!!

(our vision after the shots lol)

C'mon guys, you already know we painted the town RED!! ;)

See you again soon Gozi!! Love ya babe!

NBC brightens up NYC!!!

Yesterday morning as I was walking into my office building I was suprised to meet an array of Skittles colored taxi cabs lined up along Avenue of the Americas.

I honestly thought that the city decided to sprouse things up for the summer season by adding new colors to the 'yellow cabs' that usually run the city streets.

I just had to find out what the deal was with these new colorful rides.

I found out that these were only propmotion for the upcoming NBC fall line-up.

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. I think these "More Colorful" cabs would have been a fun change from that awful cheese color.
But whatevs!
NBC, you're marketing ploy worked.............. you've surely got my attention!! :)

Weekend Outing: Chrystal visits NY & ME Fashion Show !!!

This weekend a college friend of mine, Chrystal, decided to pay a visit to the Big Apple!! Chrystal was actually freshman year roommates with my good friend Naimah, at Howard.
I'm happy to say that these ladies have remained good friends over the years and Naimah was even in her wedding party several years ago.
It's been at least 3 years since the last time I saw Chrystal so I was more than happy to hang out with her while she was in town.

My fabulous cousin Garvin just so happened to be producing the Medgar Evers Fashion Show that was taking place this past Friday so I got us some VIFlea tixs and we all passed thru to support G.

(one of the hottest chicks on the runway right now, Miss Deija; Please don't let the post-show frazzle look fool you... shorty is baaaaad!)Oh, and that big head boy jumping in our pic is my boo, Paris!

When I found out that Miss Daija and I have the same birthday I can't say that I was all that surprised. I mean only Bad Woof-woof's are born on January 24th ;) Go-Girl!! (Me, Yani, Chrystal & Naimah)

Is that your model pout Chrys? lmao!! :DGood times for sure!!

Overall the Medgar Evers Spring Fashion Show was F.A.B. as I expected and the ladies and I had a great time catching up with Chrys!!

Weekend Outings: Tony Collins @ Medgar Evers CollegePageant

So last weekend I dropped by the Medgar Evers College Pageant to show the local school some love and to support my cousin Garvin, that produced the show.

I was plesantly surprised when the young homie Tony Collins came out and blessed the crowd with a killer performance!
He did a special acapella tribute song to his mother (in the spirit of Mother's Day!) as well as his usual bangers "Get Into You" & "Whine For Me".

Look out for this supernova on the rise!

And don't say I never warned yall about this dude!

Go Getta Girls NEVER Take No for an answer!

I saw this very upsetting yet inspirational video while doing my daily rounds in the matrix and I had to share it with you guys.

"Renee Thompson is trying to make it as a top fashion model in New York. She's got the looks, the walk and the drive. But she’s a black model in a world where white women represent the standard of beauty. Agencies rarely hire black models. And when they do, they want them to look “like white girls dipped in chocolate.”

The Colour of Beauty is a shocking short documentary that examines racism in the fashion industry. Is a black model less attractive to designers, casting directors and consumers? What is the colour of beauty?"

It's really depressing to hear/see the realities of institutionalized racism that is alive and well in many industries around the world.

I mean, the fact that we currently have our first Black President in office you would think that Black models finding more opportunities in their field is a given!
No, I'm not at all implying that just because we have a Black President then all's automatically well in the world (boy-oh-boy how "they" would love for us to think like that). I simply mean that, how do we ever really consider ourselves as taking a step forward when things like this are happening all around us. smh!

In this Go-Getta-Girl's own words: "IT'S NOT OKAY THAT YOU FEEL THAT I AM DIFFERENT OR LESSER THAN SO I'M GOING TO STAY RIGHT HERE AND BE A SORE IN YOUR EYE UNTIL YOU REALIZE WHAT I'M GOOD FOR!"

You tell them Renee!!

I wish her much success with her career in modeling and with the drive that she clearly possess I am more than certain that I will be seeing/hearing more from her!

Have you ever experience blatent (or underhanded) racism in your field? Please share......................................................... Read more!

NOW THAT'S A FIVE STAR CHICK!!!

We have definitely lost a living legend with the recent passing of the beautiful and talented Ms. Lena Horne.

Bedstuy has to stand up for this one!
This icon was born in that infamous part of Brooklyn and went on to become a trailblazer both artistically (as the first black performer to ever sign a long-term contract with a major Hollywood studio) as well as politically (refusing to sing for segregated troops and joining in the March on Washington and NAACP rallies with the likes of Medgar Evers).
Lena Horne visited with President Kennedy shortly before his assasination. She worked with first lady Eleanor Roosevelt to pass anti-lynching laws. She sang & spoke as a representative of the NAACP at civil rights marches & rallies. Ms. Horne found a way to use her star power as a tool for awareness in the fight for social equality!
Her life's work has won her numerous accolades including: 1 Emmy, 2 Tony's, 8 Grammies, an ASCAP Pied Piper Award, a Drama Desk Award, an NAACP Image Award, 2 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame {1 for motion pictures & 1 for recordings}, induction into the Dr. Martin Luther King International Civil Rights Walk of Fame, induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, JFk Center Honors... and an honarary doctorate from my alma mater, Howard University!
Oprah Winfrey is currently producing her biopic where (with the instruction of Ms. Horne herself) Ms. Alicia Keys will portray the legend. Janet Jackson was initially picked for the role however plans changed shortly after her infamous Superbowl wardrobe malfunction. Talk about her loss!!

I personally think this casting choice is spot on! Not only is there an obvious resemblance between these two beauties but I think Alicia poses the moral foundation that should be a requirement of the actress lucky enough to have this opportunity. (not at all to imply that Janet did not!!)

An icon, a legend, a trailblazer for sure......... Ms. Lena Horne we will miss you dearly and your legacy will live on forever!
p.s. Shout out to the Deltas!!! :) Ms. Horne definitely repped the Crimson & Cream!

Here's a rather endearing clip of Lena Horne's appearance on the Rosie O'Donnell show taped shortly before her 80th Birthday:

Remy Ma Speaks from Behind Bars

This interview with Remy was pretty interesting.

First let me just say THANK YOU REMY for re-stating my point. There's enough room in the game for everyone to get in where they fit in!! Check out what she had to say about the double standard when it comes to female Emcee's, around the 10:00 minute mark.

Remy shares her views on the B-more rapper Keys and why she has the right to go at Nikkin Minaj.

She also makes it clear that she intends to go super hard when she finally completes her sentence in 2013.

In the footage they joke about Remy having a studio in her cell. I actually wish I could hear some new tracks from her. I'm interested to see what her perspective would be like coming from a place of incarceration. I know she must have alot to get off her chest!!

Overall I think (minus the broken down bangs) she looks really good & healthy. She actually sounds content with her situation and optimistic about her future plans. I think this stint in jail was a neccessary evil for Rem to experience and hopefully it helps her to tone down that arrogance that landed her behind bars in the first place.

So what do you guys think.... can Remy reclaim her position in the game when she's released from prison?................................... Read more!

Master Cleanse!!

Hi loves!! :-))

Okay, so now that I am officially back to eating regular foods I can share with you guys that I recently completed the infamous MasterCleanse "Diet". Well, I guess it's more of a fast/cleanse than a 'diet' per say. But of course if you don't eat for an extended amount of time weight loss will be a much desired side effect.

I decided that it was time to take control of my body once again…inside & out! I just felt way too overweight and unhealthy lately so I figured the best way to start fresh would be to cleanse my system of all it's impurities through a fast.

I have to be completely honest, I really didn't think that I would make it the full 10 days. I couldn't fathom not eating one morcel of food for that long. Surely I would die!, right?!! lol

I soon realized that this fast was just as much a test of my mental capacity as it was to my physical capacity, if not more so.

I started the Cleanse on Sunday, April 24th. The first three days were most definitely the hardest!!! I mean I was miserable. I wanted to eat everything in site. I was upset. I didn't understand how a peanut or 1 harmless piece of fruit could possibly hurt???????

Sorry honey, I have to blow up your spot here and tell everyone that you tapped out after 2 days.

Yeah, I was on my own guys :(

But your girl is far from a quitter and by day 5 I didn't even have the urge to break the fast anymore. It was actually quite the opposite. I started to wonder just how much I could push myself and how long I could stick to this lemonade only diet.

This feeling of course changed again by day 8-9 when I realized that I was approaching the finish line and I could be done with this thing! :))

So... when it was all said and done I had lost about 10 lbs and tons of people (some friends some strangers) said my skin has a glow to it.

This fast has given me a renewed sense of pride in my determination in addition to a new perspective on the way I use/consume food.

I'm not by any means saying that I am going vegan tomorrow BUT I am saying that I know my 'diet' will be much healthier and my protion control will be on high alert. (Not to mention that the mastercleanse shrank my stomach so it only takes a couple nuts to fill me lol).

I really wish I would have taken some before and after shots but I'm sure you guys will be able to see a bit more definition in my cheekbones (and other bodyparts) in my more recent pics.

If you've ever tried the MasterCleanse or any other interesting fasts/diets please please share with me. And I am more than happy to answer any inquiries you may have for me about my experience............................................... Read more!
